New York-2

Ok now that I have some more time to gather my thoughts I'll write more on the events on this past week.

Saturday-Raining. Luckily there was a conference, Armenians and the Left, www.armeniansandtheleft.com
So I went and saw a lot of old friends that I made while I was interning in Armenia this past summer. It was the happiest I felt in a long time and a great welcome to New York. I got my book signed by Robert Fisk, and sat through some lectures, met new people, and just hung out.

Sunday-Went to South Sea Port, Ground Zero. Said goodbye to my friends who were visiting, then went to Central Park. That night I met up with my old roomate in Armenia and another friend from my stay in the homeland.

Monday-Spent all day with an ole' friend from Armenia. Went to Washington Square Park, had some great pie at the Union Square Farmer's Market, then went to Brooklyn (I'll write about Brooklyn in more detail).

Today-Tuesday-Went to the United Nations, sat in the General Assembly hall, snuck around a bit, then started the Model UN conference. I'll go back to these topics in more detail in the near future.

I don't know what that word means.

But anyway, I've met Levon in person in Armenia. Unless of course he's a different Levon, but I think he's the one I know.

Vayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy kashvank!!!!

Levon congrats man, you know yet another self righteous person. Dude do you have a special magnet or something?

Arman said...

Levon remember what I was saying about that special questionare that should be administerd at Zvartnots and our other borders to Armenians?

The test should be called Anti Armenian Ideology Dedection Test (AAIDT) or Potential Traitor Detection Test (PTDT) or something more friendly Self Righteous Armenian Detection Test (SRADT)

Example:
Question One:
Do you think there was a massacre at Khojaly?

Answer: yes

Armenian border Guard: Get the HELL OUT.

Actually in reality he would use a much more mmmmmm.....oh yes COLORFUL Armenian/Russian wording, the wording that makes you feel so dirty you want to take a shower.

Oh now our new "friend" is going to call me "nationalists" although I am only one person.

"This political strategy [i.e. creating an image of threat to the group] is crucial because, in the case of aggressive nationalism and images of threats to the ethnic nation, it creates a contect where ethnicity is all that counts, and where other interests are no longer relevant. In addition, such an image of overwhelming threat to the group delegitimizes the dissent of those challengers who attempt to appeal to members of the relevant group as individuals or who appeal to identities other than the "legitimate" identity in a "legitimate" way, especially if dissenters can be portrayed as selfish and uninterested in the well-being of the group, and can therefore be branded as traitors".

Good for you, good for you.

But you, being a teacher yourself, still did not understand what the hell I am talking about, and you never will.

I criticize Armenians all the time, but I criticize them when their actions HURT themselves, i.e. the rabiz life style, currupt and careless government, not getting an education (here in US thats a BIG problem amongst our youth) etc.

But you, just because you want to look cosmopolitan so badly, you trash Armenians on evrything that is internationaly important to us. You call your own people fascist and racist, while Armenians nearly have no hate crime. EVERY nation has sence of pride and sence of nationalism. I can gurantee you that others talk crap about us too (sometimes out of place sometimes right on the money), and some even TREAT us like crap, while we are known for our hospitality. EVEN Azeris get a 5 star treatment when they come to Armenia. What Armenians need now is that sence of patriotism, not people (people who were unfortunatly born Armenian) like you who put them down for it. Armenian level of nationalism never got to a level of fascism/nazism, it never will, If it ever does I will be the first to fight against it.

And yes if your ideology is hurtful to our nation and our international strategy and you are making an attempt to spread it, you in no means ahould enter Armenia. Jehova's witnesses and Krishna's propagandists for example should be kicked out immidiatly, and the converts should be rehabilitated.

People like you never will change, whatever is deeply Armenian (be it good or bad) and came to us throuth the centuries you will talk against it, just because of your image, that is why it is sooooo discusting. And if you truly beleive the things you say than you just DONT GET IT.

Arman,

I don't think that my actions are hurting Armenians. On the contrary, I think it is important for Armenians to realize that if they continue to take on the fascistic version of nationalism they will be giving their enemies more and more reasons and justifications.

The NK issue might be crucial for Armenia and Armenians, but does it justify denying a vicious, inhumane crime? I am not saying that Azeris are not to be blamed in the Khojaly massacre. But the way Armenians behaved is disgraceful. There is a similar case here in Lebanon, it's called Tal el Za'atar. It was a refugee camp, a Palestinian one, and the refugees were given the opportunity to leave during the siege but the Palestinian leadership (Arafat) refused, and shot on the spot anyone who tried to escape. Of course, then the Christians entered and massacred women and children left and right. Does it make it "alright" or "not a massacre" just because Arafat did not allow them to leave?

You say you're not a fascist yet you want to criminalize speech when it is speech that you do not like. How is that any different than what the Turks are doing (yes, I will compare)?

I am sorry that you think I am doing this for my self image. :S Had I wanted to do that I would've gone by my full name, so that it would be "credited" to me. I really am sorry that you think it's unfortunate that I'm an Armenian. That's what is unfortunate. It is unfortunate that people marginalize people who voice valid criticism, all in the name of "the good of the nation". Is the good of our nation in the moral disintegration of our society? :(

I guess you should spend more time educating hayastancis about us "aghpars" than on telling me I am not Armenian. And you know, you might not consider me Armenian, heck the majority of Armenians might not consider me Armenian, but if such "confirmation" is what makes one Armenian, then I will spit in the face of every Armenian. To you Armenianism has become a name you idolize rather than a history you have learned from.

Maybe when you realize this you will regret what you said to me. But that's all for you to ponder in the privacy of your own mind/heart.

If I am a traitor then this nation deserves to disappear off the face of the earth.

Harkanknerov,

A.

Tal el Za'atar is not the same as Khojaly. NK conflict was not the same as the Lebanon's civil war.
While relegion did play a role in NK conflict, it played a SECONDARY role, the primary was the security and the independence of NK from Azerbaijan. As you very well know in Lebanon's civil war religion played a PRIMARY role, and massacres were commited from both sides on daily bases, in fact thats mainly why Christian Arabs and the many different factions of the muslim Arabs fought in that war. While Armenians are only blamed for Khojaly since never before and never again after that did Armenians produce such amount (about 165) of war casaulties among the Azeri civilians (when a side that is not known for barberic behavior towards the enemy civilians is accused of a massacre, a red flag should be raised). There are reasons why this happened, coming up.
Now I see that you at least got the part that Azeris did not indeed evacuate their civilians as they should have done (which brought us to this situation at the first place). PROGRESS THANK YOU GOD.

Now, I would like you to try and to understand the difference between a massacre (INTENTIONAL murder/cleansing of the enemy's civilian population) and a UNINTENTIONAL deaths. The attack was at night, neither Azeris nor Armenian fedayis did not have night vision goggles and when fighting starts its pretty much shoot at whatever moves, so these people got caught in the crossfire. But yet again to remind you that MOST of the dead were found deep inside the Azeri rear.
Now, I dont know how much do you know about the military strategy, but let me ask you a question WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOU WERE IN COMMAND OF THE ARMENIANS GIVEN THE CIRCUMSTANCES (your own civilian population is being shelled daily and bombarded from that city, and the enemy is not giving up nor is he evacuating his own population).
And PLEASE dont say "I would have been more careful", because that would indicate that I am speaking to a 5 year old girl.

Peace to you. And good luck in your "struggle".
